Heartbroken families of some of the Bourke Street victims killed in James Gargasoulas' attack have lashed police for failures in the lead-up to the tragedy.

The widow of a Bourke Street victim has accused police of being more focused on saving their careers than citizens, suggesting Victorians may be"better off protecting ourselves".

"Some officers were more focused on their careers and safety rather than protecting the public," she said. The older brother of victim Yosuke Kanno, a 25-year-old Japanese student, had a statement read to the inquest on his behalf.

When victims are saying they could have done a better job than the police, it is time to re assess our self defence rights. Not having a go at the police, but when they are more worried about getting in trouble via the leftist pitchfork mob, personal freedoms need to be protected

Probably because Gargasoulas is one of theirs, set free to cause havoc and fear leading to increased fascist laws on behalf of the Liberal government.

Ah there will be a gang related riot in Melb soon. But nobody in the police could have seen it coming..... 🤦‍♂️

The Lindt cafe incident was another police botch up. They had the option of calling in army sharp shooters but instead decided to keep it in house. Big egos at play The rest is history

I would have shot him with extreme prejudice.

Hey, give them a break. They were too busy running speed traps and breath test stops. You don't expect them to go after armed crims do you smh abcnews

Widow of Bourke Street victim directs fury towards police in coronial hearingMelinda Tan, whose husband Matthew Si was killed in the 2017 Bourke Street car attack, tells the coroner Victoria Police focused on their careers and safety rather than protecting the public when they attempted to stop James Gargasoulas. It seems we cannot learn by the mistakes of Britain and the United States and continue in the belief that if something hasn't worked elsewhere that we for some reason can make it work here or that when things do work there that for the same reasoning it can't work here. Crazy She has every right to. Police idly stand by as the general public fight off attacks. Our judiciary is a joke. Dump it all, let vigilante groups take over. It'd be far cheaper & probably a better outcome for society. Effective against the mild and the unarmed. Ineffective against the armed and dangerous.
