John Barilaro has gone from flirting with federal politics to potentially stepping down as deputy premier ahead of the next election, Sky News Political Editor aclennell says.

John Barilaro has gone from flirting with federal politics to potentially stepping down as deputy premier ahead of the next election, Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says.

Mr Barilaro on Monday announced he ruled out a tilt for the federal seat paving the way for Liberal NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance to run. “Instead of Andrew Constance retiring from politics as he suggested a couple of months ago, it looks like Barilaro will now leave the game at the next state election after retiring as deputy premier a year or so out from the 2023 election,” he said.
