Animal welfare groups and an expert in laboratory animal welfare have called for more transparency over the use of animals in medical research after a trio of baboons escaped in Sydney's inner west

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital was contacted for comment about what research the baboons were involved in at the hospital, and why, but the hospital did not respond by deadline.Humane Research Australia, which challenges the use of animals in medical research, said that, as well as baboons bred in NSW, marmosets and macaques bred in Gippsland in Victoria are used in medical experiments.

"We keep finding these incidents that clearly show it's not world class at all, not when you find primates died unexpectedly overnight from causes that they weren’t aware of; they’re clearly not being kept well," she said. A baboon sits and looks out from behind security fencing at the National Health and Medical Research Council facility in Wallacia in Sydney's west in a file picture."Put simply, there are some questions that even with the most sophisticated alternatives can't be answered unless you use the whole animal," he said.

"This is something we do need to have a public conversation about. It's a very hidden industry and no public scrutiny is allowed" she said."If there's nothing to hide, then show the world and actually let the community decide whether its ethical and justifiable."

Across the ditch, NZ politics is looking ugly. Will it bring Jacinda Ardern down?Around the world, Jacinda Ardern has been lauded for steering her nation compassionately through terrorism attacks and natural disasters, but at home her leadership and judgement are under question. Rather like ScottMorrisonMP not being in charge of The_Nationals. Nothing to see here. Is she from the foreign white Anglo-Christian community of foreign migrants and their descendants like PM ScoMo starting as British Australians after first contact and now just Australians?

Baboons on the loose lead to concerns about animal testingThe escaped baboons have prompted a conversation on the use of animals in medical research but peak research body says “alternatives are not yet available”. I thought this was an Onion article until I realised that the baboons themselves weren't the ones leading the discussions. Well I'd rather have a corona virus vaccine, because they have animals to test it in, rather than no vaccine. I mean this is the tenet of socialism really, were all in this together sacrifice a few for the good of the many or wait is that communism? You’d rather we test on humans?
