Firefighters across Australian airports are preparing to stop work next Friday. The action has been triggered by safety concerns due to understaffing, and could lead to 'significant disruptions' for air travellers across 27 airports. DETAILS: 9News

UFU aviation branch secretary Wes Garrett said the understaffing of firefighters was dangerous and they had no choice but to undertake the "stop work action"."Every day the lives 2500 air travellers across Australia are being put at risk because they don't have the protection they need from understaffed aviation firefighters," Garrett said.

"Now, every month over 600 flights are operating from Australia's airports without the aviation firefighting protection they require under international aviation safety regulation."Garrett acknowledged the strike would cause a significant disruption.

Airservices, stop rolling the dice and relying on the goodwill of ARFFS firefighters that want to get the job done and save lives. The public pays for and expects a certain level of service, all firefighters deserve safe systems of work, including minimum staffing.

Well people of Australia, you asked for it you got it.....don't winge now ALP

As an Aviation Firefighter, I will NOT be participating in this strike action. This is nothing but propaganda from our union. There are no staffing shortages at any airports! We are paid fairly for what we do, those that don't think so should find another job.

Whingeing fireys! No bushfires so this will have to do to take a day off!

Firefighters have no sympathy from me. All professionals are struggling. And using this to destroy people's holidays after 3 y of Covid is just superselfish. How about those who are on minimum wage? Public should raise their voices against their greed Adelaide

Unions using people on school holidays as pawns
