Lenders have reportedly seen up to a 10 per cent increase in people drawing out their superannuation to pay off their mortgages to get up to $25,000 in front of their repayments.

The government's decision to allow Australians access to their retirement savings was designed to only assist those experiencing financial hardship as a result of loss of income

due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Labor Party claimed the scheme had blown out by $12 billion with 560,000 people emptying their entire superannuation. Image: News Corp Australia

Smart move looking at the situation

Given the economic insecurities of today, many people who have a mortgage are facing the stress of losing their job & losing their home. If using superannuation funds means people can remove the debt on their home and give them more secuity today then it should be allowed.

What a stupid idea. When you can fix your interest rate around 2% what kind of idiot would withdraw super to get ahead in the home loan.🤷🏻‍♂️

'Taxpayers' left with 'increased burden' from govt super early access scheme | Sky News AustraliaLabor has expressed “great concern” over the Morrison government’s early access to superannuation scheme due to fears many people will be left with inadequate funds for retirement in the future. \n\nUnder the scheme, Australians struggling under the impact of the coronavirus would be allowed to access up to $10,000 of their super. \n\nOpposition Leader Anthony Albanese said on Thursday Labor was very concerned about Australians who partook of the scheme because it could mean “substantially less income for them when they retire, and that will place a greater burden on the future tax payers as well”. \n\n'Not only are we now facing the issue of increased debt which will have to be paid off for many years into the future, there will also be an increased burden as a result of people not having superannuation funds to fund their own retirement,” he said. \n\n“We know that this government has been prepared to undermine superannuation at every opportunity so we don’t blame at all people, individuals that have taken decision based upon a feeling that they need to get some immediate income.\n\n“This is a case of ideology being imposed by the government and we are very concerned about it.” \n\nImage: AP Oh well let’s just put it all on the socialist credit card.
