Australian universities have joined businesses and charities around the world pledging to cut ties with the prince over his association with notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein | chrizap

His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York, has announced he will "step back" from public duties after Australian universities joined businesses and charities around the world pledging to cut ties with the prince over his association with notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

At the time, the Murdoch University was under pressure to cancel his week-long visit, but it didn't. When Andrew arrived at the event, only one fan greeted him, and according to local press reports, even she admitted his credibility was "marred". This week, the Perth-based university said it was ending its participation with the organisation.

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology said it concluded its involvement with Pitch@Palace in October and told the PA news agency it is committed to ensuring its campus remains "a safe and inclusive place to work and study".

"I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein. His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure. I can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives. Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.
