The controversial move to put the AFP into Home Affairs has been undone five years after it first happened. auspol

following the party’s election victory, and later in the day Prime Minister Anthony Albanese released the carve-up of ministerial responsibilities and departmental changes that will take start taking place.

Plans to create the department and move responsibility for the AFP and domestic spy body the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation out of the Attorney-General’s department were first reported by this masthead in 2017.for then-Immigration Minister Peter Dutton and Immigration Department Secretary Mike Pezzullo, and it was opposed within the AFP and ASIO.

Good, it's a law & order institution, not private security goons for politicians. It's lost all credibility under Home Affairs & has been hopelessly compromised. Better off under AG where it belongs. ASIO needs to be moved back to AG as well.
