The United Nations says more than 50 people have been killed since protests against a February 1 military coup started in Myanmar, prompting Australia to reshape its diplomatic relationship with the country.

The Australian government is making major changes to its diplomatic relationship with Myanmar and redirecting humanitarian aid in response to the military coup in the country.Australia is suspending the limited bilateral Defence Cooperation Program with Myanmar's military

"We continue to strongly urge the Myanmar security forces to exercise restraint and refrain from violence against civilians." Pressure on the government has continued to mount over the past two weeks as the Tatmadaw cracked down on pro-democracy protesters. Sunday's protests, held in at least half a dozen cities, marked some of the most widespread action against last month's coup and security forces used tear gas, stun grenades and, according to several residents on social media, live bullets to break up the demonstrations.

The state-run Global New Light Of Myanmar newspaper quoted a police statement as saying said security forces were dealing with the protests in accordance with law and tear gas and stun grenades were used to break up riots that were blocking public roads.

When the rohinga genocide was happening it was a complete silence , but now that the army turned on a US chosen leader to Myanmar we suspend millitary ties .

Military ties with Myanmar? Oh no, it's an open invitation to North Pole communists ! And the Defence Minister is on stress leave ! We're fucked !?!

Why wasn't the same applicable when the Rhohinga people we being murdered ?

Now what is that saying. Better late than never Or Man this government is bloody incompetent

Look out. I feel another announcement coming, or another deflection.

I fear a military intervention may be necessary. For strictly humanitarian purposes, of course.

But the Australian army committing war crimes in Afghanistan is ok ..

But we're fine with genocide

Don't worry I'm sure China will fill the void.

Don’t make hasty decisions!

Good. I wonder how many of the coup leaders children are in Australia 🤔
