To offset the decline of coal-powered energy, Australia will need to build dozens of new energy projects and upgrade the electricity transmission network, the energy market operator says.

Australia needs dozens more renewable energy projects to offset the loss of more than 60 per cent of Australian coal power plants that will close over the next two decades, the energy market operator has forecast. The AEMO roadmap says rooftop solar will account for nearly a quarter of all energy consumption by 2040

Rooftop solar is set to play a role, with nearly a quarter of all energy consumption to come from residential and business solar panels by 2040. To offset the decline of coal there would need to be a more-than-tripling of renewable energy plants that are already established or will be installed in the next two years, the forecast said.

I can't see this being approved by the owners of the Liberal National Party, Gina Reinhart and Rupert Murdoch. They govern Australia and make all the decisions.

With sunshine all year round, instead of funding big corporations, subside individual installations and make it compulsory for building to have solar panels generating enough subsistence energy per apartment.

The panicked Energy Corps are desperate to get Govt funding for Solar farms to keep their customers shackled to mains power as are the Govts to keep the $billions in royalties and GST revenue. Now the con of high energy prices for a decade to upgrade power lines is exposed.

This article was written by a technically incompetent person who does not even know what the correct units are for expressing electricity storage capacity, even though a glance at any lithium battery would give them a big hint. Journalists are dangerously stupid people.🙄

Should be calling for nuclear - no C02 emitting backup required & 95% reliability. If you’re not for nuclear, you’re not for science....

LNP would be shitting their backers n donors the coal miners so they wont act until political press is too much They r just poodles for d miners
