Melbourne's Monash University is delaying the start to on-campus classes for a fortnight amid concerns over the international coronavirus outbreak.

On-campus classes due to start on March 2 have been pushed back to March 16 with online classes to start March 9

"We have made these decisions to ensure the entire Monash staff and student body is able to begin the semester together with the highest regard for community wellbeing."The WHO has declared the coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency — here's what that means. People who have recently travelled to other parts of China or other countries are not being asked to self-isolate.

Trying to understand the logic? Am I missing something? Will the crisis be over by March 16. What’s the difference between March 2 and March 16 in terms of the risk catching the corona virus?

80000 students what 20000-40000 from China? I guess a large qty of students would be coming back to Australia and universities around the globe after Chinese New Year.

...while some students postponed classes for a game of fortnite!

Uni’s Don’t start for another 2 months anyway

Oh and then it will be okay to open. LOL.

The first semester - March to June - will also be online only, no face to face teaching
