There is a likeness between ScottMorrisonMP's industrial relations reform push and that of Bob Hawke's Accords but the results will be 'quite different', political consultant Jim Middleton says.

There is a likeness between Scott Morrison's industrial relations reform push and that of Bob Hawke's Accords but the results will be "quite different", political consultant Jim Middleton says. Scott Morrison has called for a ceasefire between unions and businesses in a push to end a political deadlock on industrial relations that has been ongoing for decades. Mr Middleton told Sky News Australia was “not on the verge of Accord mark two”.

“I can see what business and the ACTU are bringing to the table, not so sure what it is that the government is bringing to the table. “The one thing the government does have is money and I suspect that to get any results in the end the government is going to have to be very careful about how it withdraws JobKeeper and also what it does about JobSeeker. “I cannot see that being returned to the old Newstart level.

Australia 'risking US relationship' over 'Victoria's secretive agreement with China' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian's Dennis Shanahan says Victoria's government has 'effectively signed a secretive agreement with a foreign government' which has all sorts of potential implications 'for national security and international relations'. \n\nVictoria has confirmed it will push ahead with its plan to sign up to China’s US$1.4 trillion infrastructure program.\n\nThe Belt and Road Initiative is designed to link China with Asia, Europe and Africa via a massive infrastructure investment that will see the widespread construction of railways, motorways and ports.\n\nChina claims the deal will be mutually beneficial, but the federal government has criticised Victoria for signing up for the deal citing possible security implications.\n\nMr Shanahan said the 'message was very clear from the US' following recent comments made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussing the issue with Sky News. \n\nUS Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a stern warning over Victoria’s Belt and Road deal with China, telling Sky News the US will “simply disconnect” from Australia if it affects America's telecommunications. \n\nMr Pompeo said he wasn’t aware of the specific details of the agreement but warned the US “will not take any risks”. \n\n“We will not take any risks to our telecommunications infrastructure, any risk to the national security elements of what we need to do with our Five Eyes partners,” he said.\n\n'The message is there for Victoria and for the rest of Australia,' Mr Shanahan said. \n\nImage: AP \n\n JoeDMillard Who the hell does Andrew's think he is? Scott Morrison ‘wants to get Australia opening up’: Kenny | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says Scott Morrison’s National Press Club speech was “a bit of a stocktake” but clearly the Prime Minister wants Australia to be “opening up” on the path forward out of COVID-19. \n\nOn Tuesday Prime Minister Scott Morrison thanked Australians for their sacrifices during the coronavirus lockdown saying their efforts have allowed the country to begin rebuilding.\n\nMr Morrison told the National Press Club that many developed countries experienced 100 times the deaths Australia did while Australians escaped the “worst-case scenario”.\n\nMr Kenny said as it stands, Australia is “in a great spot” as “we’ve given ourselves a great chance here, we’ve saved lives, stopped our health system being overwhelmed and we’ve crushed infections”.\n\n“All this means we ought to be re-opening much more quickly and with much more confidence,” Mr Kenny said.\n\nHe also said the prime minister “doesn’t want a fight” with the states on border closures but he is becoming increasingly “frustrated with their behavior”. \n\n“Seriously, Tasmania, WA, SA, the Territory and Queensland have got to open their borders, and more importantly they have to open their economies,” Mr Kenny said. \n\nIt comes as mixed messages have been delivered by state premiers, with some pushing for sooner relaxation of social distancing regulations and borders bans, and others seeking their extension.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia ScottMorrisonMP Can we open up to China? Australia needs to 'rethink both multilateral and international relationships' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian's Terry McCrann says Australia will be emerging into an economy where communist China is 'going to be a very different China to the China that's been so beneficial to us economically'.\n\nMr McCrann has publicly come out and stated the most critical decision the Australian government made to prevent a mass outbreak of COVID-19 was 'very clearly stopping the planes'.\n\nHe pointed to countries such as Taiwan and Hong Kong who took similar measures as well as the 'universal wearing of masks' - which he says is equally as important - but did not have as strict a lockdown as Australian and have had a similar experience with the virus.\n\nMr McCrann told Sky News nobody knows 'what sort of world we're going to emerge into' post-coronavirus.\n\nThe world cannot just assume 'everything's going to be fine at the end of this process,' Mr McCrann said.\n\n'We need to think differently about the sorts of relationships we have globally, and the sort of relationships we have multilaterally.'\n\nImage: AP WOW!! Amazing!! Rupert is still pissed that the Comrades told him to shove his StarTV up his arse We must find a way to dissolve this agreement. God only know what Andrews has signed us up to. Alas, too little too late. He should be dragged in front of federal parliament to explain his actions and this contract. China is the last country in the world we need to align with.

Scott Morrison 'wants to be the new Bob Hawke': Bolt | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Andrew Bolt says he expected Scott Morrison “to nail” his National Press Club address today, instead he delivered “one of the flattest speeches” which was simply disappointing. \n\nMr Bolt said the prime minister “is sweating the small stuff” and should be focused on the hundreds of thousands of people “who’ve just been thrown out of work by government viral bans”. \n\nHe said the prime minister was excited by the prospect of “being another Bob Hawke” during the speech and this “idea of bringing Australians together”. \n\n'Which actually means big business and big unions making a deal by September on industrial relations that suits them, not necessarily you,' Mr Bolt said. \n\nDuring his address on Tuesday, the prime minister thanked Australians for their sacrifices during the coronavirus lockdown saying their efforts have allowed the country to begin rebuilding.\n\nMr Morrison told the National Press Club that many developed countries experienced 100 times the deaths Australia did while Australians escaped the “worst-case scenario”.\n\n“There is reason to hope,” he said. \n\nDuring his address the prime minister had also confirmed the government will shelve its contentious union-busting bill as a sign of “good faith” as it looks to get it’s ‘JobMaker’ plan off the ground. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia ScottMorrisonMP Its not easy to please Bolt is it? GCobber99 ScottMorrisonMP There was a good article written about Sky News contributors today. ScottMorrisonMP I called this long ago. NSW land tax proposal 'not a bad micro-reform': Mark Latham | Sky News AustraliaNSW One Nation leader Mark Latham says the proposed introduction of a new method of taxation would give people the option to “choose” between the old stamp tax and a new land tax. \n\nMr Latham said instead of paying a large amount of money up-front in stamp duty taxes, potential buyers could opt for a second option to pay a reduced amount of money each year in land tax for the period where they owned the property. \n\nHe said this would in fact “benefit those who move around regularly” and would not negatively impact those who intend to put down roots in and live in a single residence for an extended period of time.\n\nWhile, Sky News host Rita Panahi said a land tax was “a terrible idea” and the only reason state government’s were doing it was to “increase revenue,” Mr Latham said the new system could be beneficial for homeowners.\n\n“The problem with stamp duty is that it punishes mobility and is a big upfront tax which stops people from moving around,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray. \n\n“In our modern economy mobility is a good thing, so I think opening up an option for people to pay in the second stream a smaller amount of land tax every year is not a bad micro-reform”. \n A land tax is unfair people have already paid their stamp duty, they will effectively more than double taxed. The proposal comes from the Liberals who always claim they are for lower taxes 🙄. What next? A GST rise? They really want to raise the great big tax on everything. Either way the extortion will continue. In WA we already pay both Land Tax and Stamp Duty.

UK's remainers are 'baying for Dominic Cummings' blood' | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rita Panahi says many in the UK are going after one of Boris Johnson's senior advisors Dominic Cummings not 'because of what he did, it's purely because he represents Brexit'.\n\nMr Cummings has faced increased calls to be sacked by many on the Left, members of the civil service, the Church of England, and the media after he allegedly flouted lockdown restrictions by tending to important family matters at a property in Durham.\n\nHe has been accused of not quarantining when showing symptoms of COVID-19 which has since been disproven.\n\n'The people who are remainers are the ones who are baying for his blood,' she said.\n\nSky News contributor Cory Bernardi told Sky News host Paul Murray Mr Cummings will 'end up falling on his sword and he'll get some sort of special job off the books'.\n\nImage: AP 37k dead, NHS at brink & he couldn’t abide by his own Govt regulations to stay home.
