The Tax Office is seeking to bankrupt exiled Chinese billionaire Huang Xiangmo as it pursues him overseas over a $140 million bill.

, including a $13 million mansion in Mosman in his wife Jiefang's name.

Mr Huang, a central figure in the Independent Commission Against Corruption's inquiry into NSW Labor donations, has resided in Hong Kong since his Australian permanent residency visa was cancelled on December 5 for reasons including character grounds. Mr Hutley said Mr Huang did not reside in Australia and did not have a "dwelling-house" here, which are among the factors enlivening the court's power to make a sequestration order.

Federal Court Justice Jayne Jagot continued the freezing order, pending her judgment on Monday about the precise terms of its scope.
