Despite firefighters gaining ground on the Sunshine Coast bushfire, authorities are warning the reprieve could be short lived.

There are still at least 80 fires burning across Queensland and while firefighters were able to gain an upper hand on the Peregian fire, the other fire of concern is on the Gold Coast hinterland.

Eight homes were destroyed in Sarabah including a historic lodge as fires ripped through hectres of its national park. Some residents in those fire-affected areas have been allowed to return home. Image: News Corp Australia
