Ms Liu had been a council member for two China Overseas Exchange Association chapters from 2003 to 2015, which were later rolled into China's United Front propaganda arm.But yesterday, the first-term MP revealed she had an honorary role with the Guangdong Overseas Exchange Association in 2011 but no longer had any relationship with the organisation.

Former Labor senator Sam Dastyari, who resigned from the frontbench and then from parliament after scandals involving Chinese businessmen, said Ms Liu had questions to answer. " does anyone honestly believe that if she wasn't a member of the Liberal party that the prime minister and others wouldn't be calling for her scalp right now?"
