Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the appointment of Major General Jake Ellwood, a senior officer in the Australian Army, as Queensland's flood recovery coordinator.Defence Minister Peter Dutton said he was a "fantastic" appointment"Jake is no stranger to Queensland having served at some of the highest ranks," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"I must say I did feel that you see the very best of Australians at the worst of times, and I think looking around we see that here," he said.
Morrison Government appoints army officer as Queensland's flood recovery coordinator as the government is increasingly criticised by their normally friendly media for their delayed reaction and taking so long to understand the scale of the disaster FTFY
Confusing! What is he going to co-ordinate? Did I miss an announcement? Will he be working for Morrison or Palaszczuk? Good luck Jake. PermanentVisaNow
Ofcourse it’s the Army because they are the only public servants left. Same reason they had to use the army for Aged Care. The LNP have gutted the senior civil servants that had expertise in these areas.
I was expecting several more ADF personal on the ground not just one person ?
Jake Ellwood taking the name of both the Blues Brothers. couldn't be in finer hands There's 106 miles to Lismore, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses
Hope he’s better at it than the general appointed to the vaccine rollout
Boring 😴
Goodness it had only just become clear😳
pg0268 Deploying the ADF in flood relief makes sense but it's not a substitute for effective government policy dealing with climate change across Australia. Climate change is real.
That's fixed now ! Next ....
jake, elwood - the blues brothers!
I love it when I see an Army Officer I knew in the Battalion 20 years ago, turn up in a news article. It’s like I know a celebrity.
Steve Carell is not ageing well.
His parents must have been fans of the 'Blues Brothers'?
Great Job for country have to serve with fair way..
We just got a coordinator today?
Well knock me down with a feather 🪶 Someone realised that Qld had a flood too! Wonders will never cease to amaze me 🤬🤬🤬 auspol
Did they do this after Kochie asked Dutton who was in charge?
With the Army running just about everything a competent govt should, are we Myanmar now? auspol
Fabulous 👏👏 I wonder if he would run for office?
I liked this tweet but aren't we all sick of these clean ups after floods. How about we build higher dams and levee's to stop the flooding in the 1st place. Demolish homes & commercial properties that are continually being flood damaged and rebuild on higher ground etc.🤔
Good people do good, bad do shit all nothing only undermine good out of their own incapabilitied of doing anything good themself at the expense of the good, just try me and see the outcome
Interesting timing that this is announced a few hours after Sunrise hassled a very flustered Dutton over who was the main co-ordinater 🤷🏻♀️
Good people our defence force also with helping defend our country ovean borders & coastal borders from well we already witnessed bombing Darwin ww11 mini subs and destroyers and recent years ilegal fish pilfering people smugglers thats cunning humans for you also B Smith jelousy
Will issues be sorted BEFORE the NEXT emergency?!!!
If only governments had a genuine disaster plan that they could implement at a moment’s notice, instead of scrambling about for a week or more finger pointing and politicking.
It's China's tradition to use army to help in a nature disaster. Australia learnt from China.
He's on a Misison from God.
