BREAKING: A 20-year-old former apprentice jockey has been flown to a Melbourne hospital and placed in an induced coma after falling from his horse.

Stephen Brown Jr, 20, fell during routine trackwork at the Wangaratta jumpouts, a training activity, and required immediate medical care.Mr Brown is in critical condition, according to Nine News.

“Stephen received immediate medical care from the on-course paramedic and was placed in an induced coma prior to transport.The 20-year-old, who is the son of trainer Stephen Brown, is a retired apprentice jockey and has his last race in November last year.He is still a registered track rider even though he no longer holds a jockeys’ licence.This incident comes just weeks after two female jockeys died on racetracks in Victoria and the Northern Territory.

The 32-year-old, who was also a police officer, was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition but tragically died when she arrived there.Source:AAPThe incident occurred during race three at Fannie Bay when her mount, the Philip Cole-trained Restless, reportedly clipped the heels of the horse in front and fell.
