The centre released a statement into the incident: "The person had no immediate family and was well cared for by the dedicated staff of Newmarch House. On behalf of our resident, we grieve for his death and we value that he was part of our Anglicare family while we cared for them. His passing highlights how terrible this virus is and how devastating it is for the elderly in our community.
The impact of COVID-19 on older people is increasingly evident in Australia and internationally and this is extremely distressing for other residents, their families and members of the wider community. Anglicare appreciates the support of the Commonwealth Government in assisting us to source an infection control specialist who is currently on site this week, monitoring and reviewing all current contamination and infection control procedures.
