A story of love, sacrifice and separation underpins Favel Parrett's brilliant new book |KerrieOBrien1

is the story of two sisters, separated at 17 when one left home while the other remained in Prague. Though they subsequently led very different lives, their stories were also remarkably similar.

A central character, Ludek, is based on her cousin – who cried for four days when he read the book. Parrett says he was indispensable, his recollections of Prague in the 1980s, as well as much-treasured trips there by her grandparents, enrichening her narrative. “Dates and facts are just that: they’re not stories. I would give anything to just have a few hours with them, to ask questions and listen.”
