The Federal Government's failure to address the growing health impacts of climate change is putting Australian lives at risk, a major new report warns.

Following the release of the report, a coalition of health bodies, including the Australian Medical Association and Royal Australasian College of Physicians, have called for urgent policy reform to safeguard Australians' health from climate impacts.

Last year was Australia's hottest and driest year on record, which resulted in unprecedented bushfires — the intensity and duration of which can be directly linked to climate change, said Paul Beggs, environmental scientist and co-chair of the MJA-Lancet Countdown. In addition to 26 fatalities directly caused by the fires, Black Summer caused almost 430 smoke-related deaths and 3,230 hospital admissions.

The report found that Australia has experienced one of the greatest increases in fire risk globally. But bushfires and air pollution aren't the only climate-change-related events to have serious physical and mental health consequences. Australia is the only OECD country to have worsened the carbon intensity of its energy supply over the past three decades, which is now 36 per cent higher than the global average."If you compare Australia to other countries, we really are at the bottom of the pack."

Climate change contributes to racism and the coronavirus. If we tackle it, the other two will end

At least scummo can’t get to Hawaii

One way to help would be for the ABC and the other climate death cult followers to stop trying to scare everyone with their biased inflated fake news climate predictions

We mist stop electing mentally ill politicians like Mr Morrison and Mr Abbott. I realise they’re the analogical equivalents of teen babysitters in a crèche, and the infants have to feel comfortable with them, but this is nonsense we can no longer afford.

Stop your over zealous back burning and then the watch, watch, wait, hang on, wait wait

Your monotonous screeching about this climate hoax is definitely having an effect in my mental health. Unplug your sirens it causing noise pollution and undue trauma.

God you lot carry on with lies

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 does the fake news ever end? 😞 😞😞😞😞😞😞😞

2019:The world's three largest forests: the forest in Canada andUnited States, in Brazil, in Australia: huge fires occurred in 2019, killings huge quantities animals, global climate change and covid-19 appears, nature revenge! Can u believe Arab Saudi,Kuwait,, flood? It happened

Build nuclear power plants.

Rubbish. Where you choose to live has a far far greater bearing on these claimed “health impacts”. I’m from Victoria and for generations people migrated north for the warmer climate due to illness.. this (again) is simply hysterical leftist narrative

This govt is too busy putting out their own fires & doing at home with scomo promos

Oh FFS... what an absolute load of crap... the only health problem is the mental health impacts of continued fear mongering

How many wind turbines will stop the fires?

Oh fark off with this fake news nonsense.

ABCscience More climate bulls**t

Impact of Santa Claus would be more grounded in reality.

Funny how the trend in temperature rise is in line with the expansion of our capital cities.

🤪🤪

More climate change fear porn from the ABC.

😂😂😂 Still relying on RCP 8.5 and BAU? Jean Shrimpton would make a better model. What say you RogerPielkeJr ?

We've never been more resilient in surviving natural disasters, but let's not let the facts get in the way of a catastrophic global warming story…

One big turn-air-conditioners-off (for all of summer)...?

How can Australia change the Climate ?

Scatmapants rejected Funding Heavy Aerial Fleet in 2017/18/19/20 'Inaccessible' Fraser Island Fire would be OUT! $250 Million on SharkShit1 would have bought FIVE AERIAL TANKERS! 34 Dead! 1/2 Bill Animals! 46m acres of land The Brown line is his cuts!

How about attacking the cause of climate change with gusto and actually doing our part at a federal level; unlike the states? The human element caused this, why deal predominantly with the human health issues
