New South Wales beekeepers and industry groups say emergency measures imposed to stop the spread of a deadly parasite will devastate the industry and have potentially significant knock-on effects on honey production and agriculture.
"I've got about 150 beehives on my property at Williamtown and by the looks of it all my hives will be eradicated," he said. All 150 of David Vial's hives will be destroyed."I'm probably looking at, over the next couple of years, maybe a quarter of million dollars in lost sales," he said. "With these sorts of situations, regardless of the species or the issue, humans moving animals or plants around the state is a big risk to disseminating or increasing the size of the problem," he said.Mr Jackson said while the measures were necessary, he agreed they would have a big impact on apiarists and beyond.
Can’t the hives be saved by carefully targeting only the mites or making them show up visually or something?! Surely the mite has a predator or disease vector too? Quick get the environmental biologists onto the job! Fund them quickly Albo!
WEF plan
How did this get in ? Australia has been in virtual lockdown for the past two years.
This is terrible. One can only wonder whether or not this is part of some push to destroy agriculture in Australia as part of the great reset and agenda 30 plans? Look at what is happening across the world.
Unfortunate but necessary
Another failure of Australian bio security. Australian bio security is proving unfit for purpose. Where is the State and Federal Ministers accountability. auspol bees
You would have to seriously question the wisdom of allowing any beehives to be located within 5km of any sea or air terminal that receives international traffic. Govt knobheads would not have a clue but you would expect apiarists to understand the ramifications.
Fireants, myrtle rust, armyworm, varroa mites, swine diseases etc.....reckon it's time we had a good look at biocontrol and borders. You'd think the $ up front would be a fraction of the long term costs, so why not?
Longevity wasp genes in us How about putting in? Longevity wasps are strong Weighing with excellent seed
Logically & figuratively, it's time our cosy political class took one for 'Team Australia', based on this measure for the greater good.
Planned food shortages are being enacted by Western govs that are under Globalist control.
