His decision opens the way for the club to appoint Michael Voss, who is considered the frontrunner for the vacant position, after formal interviews were held with Voss, Adam Kingsley and Daniel Giansiracusa last week.

Clarkson had already declared he would spend 2022 working on his professional development, travelling and spending time with his family after a lifetime in football,He is expected to confirm his decision on Fox Footy’sHawthorn were obligated to pay the 53-year-old the final year of his contract which is estimated to be $900,000 when he mutually agreed with the club to hand the reins over to incoming coach Sam Mitchell rather than proceed with a succession plan.

Clarkson’s call means the coaching selection panel led by former Carlton champion Greg Williams will now choose a new coach to replace Teague.
