Jake Miller is stuck in hotel quarantine waiting for genomic test results to give him the all clear. Trouble is, he has no idea when that might be.

That meant his sample would have to undergo genomic testing which meant another two weeks in quarantine.

Once the results of the genomic testing are back, they will then have to be reviewed by a panel of medical experts who decide whether Mr Miller can finally be released. "More than likely that wouldn't happen over the weekend — so I will be looking at some time in the last week of January to really be released from quarantine. He says the system works well for people who have just arrived back but doesn't take into account those who are coming to the end of their time in quarantine."Had I refused testing from day one which you are legally allowed to do, it just adds another ten days so I would have been out by now.

"You can't make plans outside of it any more like we have a wedding at the end of this month and I'm not sure if I can attend or not."Sydney Local Health District said new national guidelines have been introduced due to concerns about highly transmissible new strains of COVID-19, aSamples from those who test positive in quarantine will now be analysed to determine if they have a variant of concern.

"However, this is necessary to ensure that the patient is no longer infectious and to protect the broader community."

Nor do the People that have been in offshore detention for the last decade.

I wont let him out until his beard and pubes unify over his chest

ABC ‘news’. ‘News’. LOLs. Get rid of the news and replace it with ABC Operation Mockingbird.

He rolled the dice when he chose to leave the country for a wedding. Millions of others have missed weddings, funerals and seeing family in the past year. He can get out of quarantine when it’s confirmed that he’s not a threat to the community. He’s not being punished.

Looks like he has been in quarantine for a bit longer than 29 days

V bbb bbb bbb v

And 30000 are overseas and not sure when they can get home, your point?

Come on NSW Health give the poor guy a timeline at least for the genomic test so he has something to look forward to!! Not like you have huge test case numbers.

How many days are you going to repeat this anecdote on your news channel? Have you made any investigation as to the official circumstances of his situation? Will the QLD government get to present their side of the story? Isn't balance your thing?

Just shave your beard off and escape. Stop being a victim

So this story is about how we aren’t letting someone with a positive test out of quarantine until they have a medical review. Sounds like it’s working as planned.

Ok.

If only you guys cared as much and wrote as many stories on the refugees that have been locked up for YEARS not days.

Neither do the refugees in indefinite detention.

Ok? And? 🤷‍♀️ There are 100s of 1000s of people who have larger concerns right now than whether they will miss attending a wedding. He’s incredibly lucky to get back Home at all. Many 1000s of expats still can’t. To a large degree b/c of ppl like him leaving & returning.

I have had to travel back & forth to the US 3 times in the past 12 months for business. That’s a total of 84 days in quarantine... people need to learn a bit of stoicism.

I feel for him. But I also don't understand what people expect when they make the decision to leave the country.

Tough.

Anecdote makes nice reading but it is not evidence. This chap is a victim of poor Commonwealth quarantine planning and bad luck. Why we didn't stand up regional quarantine based 12 months ago is still a mystery. Blame ScottMorrisonMP and PeterDutton

Refugees have been in Brisbane hotel for 18 months and the Biloela family over 1,000 days. At least this guy knows he will be out of quarantine soon.

He’d be fine if he was a tennis player...

Just leave , ffs stop complying with these totalitarian rules .

This decision is not based on science. The country has lost its stance on the world stage. The rest of the world laughs at you

now come and interview me and i will tell you all about the heartbreaking decision of who can and cannot come to mums funeral dare you

Naw son. I would have done been shot for leaving at this point. Or jumped out that window
