Following a stressful summer, half of readers have a less favourable view of the Morrison government.

“The federal government has been shown to be unprepared at every turn in the pandemic since February 2020, ultimately responding with too little, too late. There is a leadership void at the Federal level,” one reader wrote.poll surveys 649 readers about issues affecting the economy and society every fortnight.

Readers were split when asked if the state and federal governments had struck the right balance between continuing to open up the economy and countering the health risks posed by a surge in COVID-19 infections. “It’s clear that a much more cautious approach over the Christmas and NY period was warranted,” one reader wrote. “Opening up so quickly was wrong and also very disrespectful of the medical community and all the other people put in harm’s way.”
