The outgoing AFP boss rejects the claim his officers were attempting to intimidate journalists when they carried out two raids — one on the headquarters of the ABC and the other on the home of a News Corp reporter.

Outgoing Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin has rejected the claim his officers were attempting to"intimidate" journalists when they carried out two raids — one on the headquarters of the ABC and the other on the home of a News Corp reporter.Commissioner Colvin says the raids on the ABC and a News Corp reporter were not designed to intimidate

Commissioner Colvin says he is comfortable with the AFP enforcing the law as"proscribed by the Parliament", with the Commissioner confirming to 7.30 the investigations are ongoing. In his first TV interview since the raids took place, Commissioner Colvin was dismissive of the outcry the raids prompted from news organisations around the world, declaring the dual AFP investigations were"not a great attack on press freedoms in this country"."I don't believe that's what we were attempting to do."

Yesterday the ABC revealed the AFP sought to fingerprint the journalists involved — an action described by the

Well done AFP 👍 I appreciate your work 👍

Liar. Never trust the police.

So I wonder what they see is “intimidation”?

No intimidation here, just a pack of secretive government ministers, user their power, so they don’t have to be transparent

But we succeeded in what we were not attempting to do

Afp another department of the lieberal party

I love seeing these self righteous journalist activists getting all hot and bothered with the indignation of being held to account finally.

Well if that is the case they FAILED!

?..and you expect the public to believe that? Too much evidence to the contrary I’m afraid! Personally I. elieve there is more to the Commissioner bowing out, than is offered. Too many questions about complicity with Govt for a start.

Surely the question is who gave them the information in the first place. They may have assumed that it was okay to publish.

journalist's should look at them selves, there the ones that intimidate people....

Oh yes it was! !

Still are

More scrutiny, protest should have applied to laws, b4 they passed. IF someone breaks law, or intends, of course they will feel intimidated by police action. Were media orgs too 'intimidated' to report on the laws, or was relationship with gov too special?

They weren’t attempting it, they were doing it. Intimidation was always part of the exercise.

Difficult watching this guy and accepting he is telling the truth. We are entitled to be cynical of the motives behind this action against a free press coincidentally helping to protect a government known for its secrecy and lack of transparency

If Tom Pepper was alive his mother wouldn't let him play with Andrew (Never tell a lie) Colvin.... Haaaa like the IPA/ABC says are you afraid to suck a dick ... Handy Andy cleans right up!!!

And i bet the union raides wasn't for intimidation it was to satisfy Ruphert and the Coalition Puppets (AFP)

Only whistleblowers

If it’s what you’d expect them to say it’s not news. ABC and all MSM has contributed to its own demise by remaining silent and complicit many times over. Leaving the brave, decent journos out on a limb. auspol

Yeah, right.

LouiseBeaston Just arrest them or ensure they don't report 🙄

Cardinal Pell said he wasn't a pedo, either, if it helps

And I saw pigs flying today.

🤣 sure 🤪😂

Yeah! No!!!!! That’s exactly what’s happening here

& yet AFP succeeded in intimidating journalists, oh, & by the way, you're starting to scare citizens ...

davrosz So why then did they carry out the raids,if not to THREATEN journalists? if they had any sense of moral behaviour they would have told Dutton to stick it.

MattDoran91 What else could he say? Seriously.

Was he likely to have said anything else?

The Easter bunny delivered suspicious eggs. Bit late…

What a load of crap 🤬🤬🤬

And anyone who says otherwise gets the yellow pages treatment

MSMWatchdog2013 No no, of course not.

Spot on Commissioner

It certainly looked like it

they should have worn the full get-up balaclavas and all.

TraceyLeeHolmes I don't agree with commissioner colvin .....Dutton is also to be imploded in his comments ..... journalists only report what the public want

🐖🐖with wings.

The Fedral police are only doing the work of the politicians because the legislation is written by politicians instructing police what to do. The ABC is employed by the people to inform the people of the truth which is wonderful I wish the politicians can be more truthful

Bullshit! Pure intimidation

No, not attempting to intimidate, but succeeding to intimidate!

BULLSHIT........

i call bullshit on that interview. too many lies.

Sure... I can buy that. The government was attempting to intimidate journalists using the AFP as a tool.

Starting to make Russian police look good.

Don’t break the law and you’ll have nothing to be intimidated about

DontBelieveIt OberFuhrersDepartment

Mean girl in the real world. a raid on a girls under draw draws, is intimidation. AFP commiss needs to man up. Tell his employers why when & why Federal officers were used by Politicians.. FBI former Director James could explain the end of a job. Comes from being the dumb SOB

Just another government Militia

😂😂

The insult in this is that this public servant expects the population to believe him.

And a HUGE big signal to whistleblowers. Because the government can't handle scrutiny

Getting like China

Proud of you for looking after yourself AFPCommissioner

How does going to their home not intimidate them.

Really...

I call 🐂💩

Not much, anyway.

Is that the LNP- AFP Commissioner who is leaving the sinking ship? afp auspol guyra nowater Colvin 730report ABCNews

Many journalists heading for freedom in China as a result of AFP

So if the commissioner says the moon is made of cheese, we should accept that ? It shows the job description and required advertised skills for the job of commissioner need looking at !!!

No just trying to verify information from the source, without having to do the work yourselves. Look at the monumental mess your poor judgement has made. Intimidation of the group who will most definitely report this to the world. What were you doing with your other hand?😏

Agree the AFP wasn’t attempting. They were doing it!

Bullshit. Of course they were; on government orders. Where's the primetime raids over the Medivac leaks from Home Affairs? Or are they only being broadcast on pay TV? How about rent-a-Union-buster? Behind a whiteboard? Designed to intimidate; calculated to silence. Q.E.D.

The Cookie Monster claims not to be intimidating cookie bakers with his heavy handed cookie collecting tactics.

No possible way you believe that.

Seriously !!!! You demanded their fingerprints.

AFP - fully owned franchise of a corrupt federal government.

That's a relief

Did everyone expect him to say; 'Oh by the way, the raids on those journos we're meant to intimidate them and set an example'? OF COURSE HE'S GOING TO SAY THIS

Indeed. It was succeeding.

Presume the cmmish will explain all about the dodgy warrants
