A federal court judge has approved the $212 million settlement of three class action lawsuits over firefighting contamination caused by the Department of Defence.Max Mason-Hubers

Williamtown residents settled the case for 97 per cent of the maximum amount they could have won at trial, while for Oakey the figure was 103 per cent and Katherine 109 per cent. The litigation funder that bankrolled the case, Omni Bridgeway, will take $53.1 million in profits and $940,000 for out of pocket costs.Around $2 million will be used to distribute the funds and more than $100,000 will go to the community members who took a leading role in the case.

Mr Saker stressed this was a choice made by clients rather than Omni, and efforts were made to reduce duplication of costs.
