Ex-Deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce has called abortion “the slavery debate of our time” at a Sydney anti-abortion rally. Speaking to over 1,000 pro-life supporters, Mr Joyce said it boils down to the decision if “there is one person or two people” when it comes to abortion. “Two people have rights and those rights must be respected or society is destroyed,” he told cheering protesters.

“Where does this animalistic process stop?” Joyce asked the screaming crowd, before adding abortion rights are “the slavery debate of our time.” On Tuesday, New South Wales Upper House MPs will have its final say on legislation designed to decriminalise abortions.
