Racing NSW has slammed ABC’s 7.30 for what it says was a “false” program on racehorse cruelty which claimed horses were slaughtered.

In a 21-page letter to ABC managing director David Anderson, Racing NSW chair Russell Balding has highlighted erroneous claims he says the ABC made about the state industry.program’s report dubbed “The Final Race” was timed to air last month amid the Spring racing carnival, days before the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate. On Melbourne Cup day, animal rights activists picketed the event with placards about horse racing cruelty.

The ABC’s dire report on the ‘dark side’ of the racehorse industry has been slammed for ‘false’ and ‘unfair’ reporting. The 7.30 program relied on footage from the abattoir in Caboolture, north of Brisbane. Picture: Jono Searle. The Racing NSW letter to the ABC says the 7.30 program made no effort to explain the body’s lack of any connection with the Queensland abattoir.Alive and well, retired racehorse Reliable Kingdom was saved from becoming pet food.

He said there was “no effort by the program to explain” that Racing NSW was not associated with the abbattoir where horse deaths were filmed, or aware of “the atrocities occuring at the facility”. Barry O’Farrell said he was “reasonably confident” that just 34 horses, or less than 1 per cent of retired racehorses were slaughtered annually.

B S no more horse racing. Got found out

Tell the Racing Industry it is not a sport it is a breeding ground for over breeding and animal cruelty. It has failed or levels of being considered a reputable industry.

No to horse racing period

The ABC always reports the truth, so what are they on about here?

RacingNSW so the horse has just bolted to the slaughter house? repeat, repeat, repeat! So which part is false? the empty stables, the boneyard, the ABC live video.

The ABC never lets the truth get in the way of a good story. 🙄

So they staged it? Yeah right...

Just ban horse racing...simples

Then Racing NSW needs to implement the same horse tracking policy that WA just implemented.

Shame on you NSW Racing!! Everyone and anyone who has anything to do with thoroughbreds or horse racing knows this has been going on for decades.... Stop lying to the people and do something productive like Victoria Racing has done, put your hands in your pockets!!

The so called science of racehorse cruelty has never been proven. The latte sipping inner city lefties have made this all up. Racehorses have always died in Australia

So...the racehorses WEREN’T discarded, mistreated or slaughtered? They maybe were PRETEND CGI horses or horses actors pretending to get slaughtered? Did my eyes deceive me?

You would believe nothing you hear at the ABC, and very little, of what you see.
