ABC bosses go to Bankstown to learn about 'real Australians' | JennieDuke

The ABC is planning an overhaul of its news coverage to attract outer suburban and regional city Australians and increase its audience amid a slowdown in traditional television viewership.

Our budgets have been going down so we can't invest into more audiences ... we've got to appeal to a broader cross-section of Australia.People living in Sydney's west will be a focus for Mr Morris, along with Melbourne's east, Brisbane's south and Perth's south west, and regional cities like Newcastle and Geelong.

The latest OzTam data shows the average age of Seven West Media's audience in the 6pm to 10.30pm timeslot is 53 in the capital cities, Nine's is 51 and Network Ten – which focuses on younger audiences – has an average age of 47.ongoing declines in linear TV viewership year-on-yearThere has also been growing concern among media executives and academics that the average person views the news media as out of touch with their lives.

JennieDuke True.

JennieDuke Grab your hijab Ita, you’ll need it.

JennieDuke Canapés at the Bryan Brown Theatre?

JennieDuke Lol 😆

JennieDuke ABCaustralia real people live all across Australia. They are a diverse group with different wants. The country needs an ABC that delivers excellence in journalism, comedy, children’s programs and more. It should not try to compete in the same space as the commercial platforms

JennieDuke All the people freakin' out in the comments about 'who real Australians are' and needing an interpreter in Bankstown. Guess the ABC aren't the only people who've never been to Bankstown.

JennieDuke Pretentious gits. But that’s Sydney huh. The inner city, northern and eastern suburbs and the rest.

JennieDuke Hope she took some interpreters with her, otherwise how would she know what all the Australians think 🤔

JennieDuke Ugh, the very phrase 'real Australians' is exclusionist and tribal. We are all real Australians, all of our experiences are unique and valid. auspil

JennieDuke Better to send you all back to journalism school, most of you are just PR hacks ...including her pictured

JennieDuke If she was fair dinkum she'd leave the Canberra-Melbourne-Sydney axis completely.

JennieDuke This comes off as 'Visiting the peasants for the day'.

JennieDuke What makes you a real Australian? Seriously curious.

JennieDuke Pretty Sydney/NSW centric isn't it surely there should be a varied source of places to get a balanced overview as per ABC charter.

JennieDuke Great initiative - well done Aunty!!

JennieDuke Fully sick. Sydney is more than the trendy inner city. Friendlyjordies could help you.

JennieDuke How about employing more “real Australians”? Where is the quota for that?

JennieDuke On safari to find 'real Australians', ABC air-wing's 'ITA-ONE' lands safely on the savannah

JennieDuke Don't be so silly. The PM for Sydney only ever rules for Sydney (as have the last two) how about a bit more diversity? Put Raf_Epstein onto it for Melbs and look to other places within the ENTIRE country too!

JennieDuke So I’m not a real Australian?

JennieDuke Its a fully sick area that you can find guns to purchase and learn how to rort the welfare while selling a car or fixing a car and making sure you rip them off hard. I wonder if next stop is Mt Druitt

JennieDuke There you go adamseconomics more of Australia might get to hear more about your 10 steps not just a minority

JennieDuke 🤦🏽‍♀️

JennieDuke

JennieDuke Of course because that’s where real Australians live. They used to live in places like Wonthaggi, Dapto, Toodyay, Keith, Cunnamulla, Tennant Creek and Burnie but now they live in Bankstown

JennieDuke Maybe broaden q&a and force politicians to answer real australian questions?

JennieDuke Wrong suburb. ABC doomed. Nice knowing you.

JennieDuke Bankstown is “real Australia “? They’ve got to be kidding!

JennieDuke Give them a GPS syste because those bosses and staff have never been to Bankstown . They all live in the inner west and were shocked when others voted for the LNP !

JennieDuke Are there any left in Bankstown

JennieDuke Welcome to Bankstown Ita.

JennieDuke Don't you find them everywhere in Australia?

JennieDuke Real Australians left Bankstown in the 1980s.

JennieDuke ridiculous ...

JennieDuke Maybe get out of your Sydney bubble and meet some real Australians

JennieDuke Sure they will... Come to Qld ItaButtrose - come hang out, maybe try some $37.50/g “legit Cannabis for medical use”... I do make a really nice Aloo-Gobi if you’d like some lunch. Auspol

JennieDuke You won’t find many at Bankstown. ABC sooo out of touch. abcnews auspol

JennieDuke About time.

JennieDuke But wait, i don't live there.

JennieDuke 'Real Australians'? How insulting, because I don't live in Rooty Hill and live at the local RSL I'm somehow less than real? auspol

JennieDuke Trust our ABC, Hmm? Like Former ABC chairman Maurice Newman said the ABC and SBS both have been captured by the Left. There is no effort to be fair. The pretence is over. I mean they can’t keep pretending in this way because it’s blatantly dishonest.

Mining industry insider reveals she's leaking information to anti-Adani activistsA worker at a company bidding for an Adani contract tells the ABC she is leaking inside information to environmental activists so they can target her employer. The need for an insider only exists when there is something to hide So someone admitted industrial espionage to the ABC, seems they are without conscience, and a liar, lacking ethics, loyalty to their workmates, and employer. I take it the ABC 'leaked' their disloyalty back to the employer, in same fashion? No? Government funded, support? Biggest argument people make against stopadani is jobs. Totally agree jobs are important! Queenslanders need jobs that work with our land. Globally, governments are putting in place positive policies that promote conservation & sustainability that increase prosperity auspol

Parents should put down their phones and help solve Australia's writing crisisTechnology is part of the problem. Students' writing ability has worsened every year for the last eight years. Yet, this is a most solvable problem. Let's start by having every child across the country pick up a pencil and write a 12-page book. Blame computers for that...... I used to do that for the fun of it when I was 7 Make all essays at school and uni acceptable only if hand written. Bye bye plagiarism.

'The card declined and I broke down': Life on the cashless welfare cardOne woman couldn't buy second hand uni books. She abandoned a nursing placement after being blocked from buying a stethoscope online. She says was told she couldn't buy from that site as it sold hand sanitiser, a restricted item due to its alcohol content. I'll add these to the ShitThatNeverHappened file. She wasn’t trying too hard Ive seen stethoscopes on ebay guess didnt try other options for purchasing or the nursing career didn't mean that much
