Australian and New Zealand researchers develop a new predictive model that forecasts cyclones up to four months in advance, which could buy the Pacific more time to prepare for deadly weather events.

Cyclones have been notoriously hard to predict over decades, but a new scientific model could prove to be a circuit-breaker, particularly in the cyclone-battered Pacific.Cyclone modelling has traditionally been difficult due to complex interactions between the sea and atmosphereThis could strengthen the Pacific's preparedness for its annual cyclone season

Current modelling only produces forecasts one month in advance, while actual cyclone paths may not necessarily follow predicted paths. The above graphic shows how evolving cyclone prediction technology would have mapped Cyclone Tracy's path.

Just tell me what tomorrows weather will be and get it right. Don't worry about crystal balling the never ever like climate change rubbish.

From the team that brings you the official GretaThunberg UN “warming/cooling/well there’s no change yet but you just wait” guessing machines... ClimateChange weather hardtotrust

Awesome, now if only they could tell us ACCURATELY what tomorrow in Melbourne will be like.

No they can't

Lol

LMFAO.WALOS

Bullshit

ok lets hear how many and what are the dates? because its the BOM and their notoriously wrong no need for the exact date just the month waiting

This is an outlook and not a prediction of cyclone tracks or intensity... an important distinction..

That's pretty cool. Computing power has come some way since the 70s. Obviously long range forecasting and closer term is way different, would not expect a predicted track map two months out, but improved track map accuracy near term definitely.

having worked in 'chaos theory' for a few years, i seriously doubt this.
