Twenty-six asylum seekers held in a hotel in Melbourne's inner-north have been told they are being released into the community on bridging visas, advocates and detainees say.

The bridging visas would allow the men to live in the community until final decisions on their claims for asylum are made.

“As well, it’s a victory for the refugee movement, who have been united in hitting the streets day after day, month after month.” “As well, each of them should be given permanent citizenship immediately, not just the bridging visas they’ve been offered so far.” “While it is very good news that the government has begun the release of refugees brought from Manus and Nauru for medical treatment, they should never have been held in detention in Australia. They should all be released immediately," he said in a statement.

DrRonBaumann Now, how about all refugees in detention? It's been ruled as Torture by the ICC. Human Rights Commissioners have said it's inhumane. So, how about the rest ScottMorrisonMP 'Do unto others......'

“As well, each of them should be given permanent citizenship immediately, not just the bridging visas they’ve been offered so far.” Seriously?

Is Adam Bandt and the Green bleeding hearts housing them?

Did they ever require hospitalization? Or was the medevac legislation guise just a means to gain entry and further their cause?

What about these Australia born little girls. HometoBilo over 1000 days in detention.

Why would you advertise this. They should have just accepted the solution & shut up. Now will we see a starts a new rush of people hope not.

A sure sign an election looming. ScottMorrisonMP has held these innocent people for almost 8 years but now decides it’s ok to let them go. Anyone think there is a reason?

👏

The tennis players have asked Dan for a room upgrade.

SBS And that will be the last you ever see of them. Change names, change addresses and taxpayers will foot the bills. Labor have learnt nothing.

They must be deported if they have jumped the queue. To those who are supporting them, do you know they pay big money to the people smugglers to be put on a boat. Do you know their background? Finally if you are so keen then why don’t you provide accommodation at your place.

SBS But not HomeToBilo

'There will be no climate justice while we celebrate January 26'OPINION: Torres Strait Islander Tish King doesn’t think January 26 is a time for celebration. Instead, she writes, Australia should be recognising the connection of First Nations people to the land, islands and sea, and working together to protect them. It’s always nice how they lived in harmony with the landscape, by repeatedly burning it for 100,000 years and encouraging the spread of eucalyptus. That’s some harmony! One of a series by SBS pushing a political point of view by one (and only one) of their many constituencies? How’s about no?
