The family of a man allegedly killed in a road rage attack is "horrendously traumatised" by his tragic and sudden death.
Police found a 61-year-old near the road at Albert Harrower Crescent in South West Rocks on the NSWW mid-north coast just before 7pm yesterday.
He suffered serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.

"Investigators are reviewing information received at the scene which suggests that the two males may have been involved in a road rage type incident," Mid-North Coast Police District Crime Manager Detective Acting Inspector Peter O'Reilly today.
He said it may have started in the South West Rocks CBD and then down Mitchell Street and Gregory Street down to Albert Harrower Crescent.
The older man then suffered "significant head trauma which has resulted in his death," Mr O'Reilly said.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Kempsey Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
The men are not known to each other but are both local to the area.
He was refused bail to appear in court later today.
The investigation is continuing.
