A deadly eastern brown snake has slithered from inside a sink drain as a Queensland man started to wash his dishes.
Michael Hilliard told 9News he had his hand just inches away from the highly venomous reptile when it emerged.
"It was just a bit of a surprise. I'd popped my hands in and it was like 'woah what was that'," Mr Hilliard said.
"Then I found out it was a juvenile eastern brown so I phoned up the snake catcher and he said yes it is.
"It was a bit of a shock because they're pretty lethal. Thank God it didn't get me.
"You'd think they'd be nice and quiet there."
Snake Catcher Steven Brown was tasked with the job of removing the snake from the Draper property, North of Brisbane.
But it had slithered back down and into the dishwasher by the time he arrived.
Despite its tiny size, the snake had enough venom to kill a person.
The eastern brown snake is considered the second-most venomous land snake in the world.
Together with other brown snakes they are responsible for more deaths every year than any other group of snakes
