A north Queensland court has heard an 11-year-old boy facing more than 100 charges, including attempted armed robbery, is a threat in and out of prison. He had been granted bail 10 times within months and was charged with more than 50 offences.
In the High-Risk Youth Court in Townsville today, Magistrate Steven Mosch was told the boy had committed 49 offences inside the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre since February."There is certainly an unacceptable risk wherever he is," police prosecutor Tasman Murphy said. The boy's solicitor, Michael O'Dea, applied for bail, but Mr Mosch denied the application and said the matter was "challenging".
Mr O'Dea said the boy was "extremely vulnerable" and had "huge" mental and intellectual impairments for which he would not take medication."His understanding of his wrong is almost nil. He doesn't understand what a curfew is … he's not going to comply with a curfew."
CPS investigation
Youth detention not prison but don’t let facts hinder a great click bait headline.
The boy has been on remand since Feb for offences including attempting to rob a takeaway shop owner at knifepoint in Townsville He had been granted bail 10 times within months and faced more than 50 charges BAIL REVOLVING DOOR no surety
Revolving door children's court is a way of life in the north. The only winner's are car dealers, locksmiths and security companies.
Fucking disgusting
What sort of parents does this 11 y.o. have ?
Typical Australians
This is just so sad. This poor kid. I realize that he has committed crimes, but, it is painfully clear that he is also a victim
To all of u pointing the finger at this poor kids parents. Yes, you're probably right. It's probably his parents. I'm guessing they have serious mental health or drug & or alcohol problems. Who knows why? How far back do we go? This kid needs help & an overhaul of the OOHC system
So wherever the hell he is now? Dont GAF if its his natural parents or a certain dept in charge of his welfare?! TAKE HIM OFF WHOEVER HAS CARE OF HIM CURRENTLY... Be it state or even his own parents? People caring for him now ARE NOT capable of the job so give him REAL support.
Remand is not the place for this kid Locking him up is not going to help him rehabilitate his wrong doings Clearly needs medical attention
Mum and dad of the year
He literally needs a mighty hard kick straight in his arse. As hard as one can kiick an arse.
It all starts from his family
juvi so good for him
