A British guest told AFP by telephone that he and other guests had received a notice telling them to stay in their rooms.
The Canary Islands, an archipelago located some 100 kilometres west of the African coast, is a popular vacation destination that attracts Europeans year-round.The guests have been told to remain in their rooms at the resort.It comes as scientists fear the coronavirus is spreading without symptoms becoming apparent as a surge in cases occurs across Europe.
University of Reading's Simon Clarke said the rise in cases across Europe and Asia suggests that the “virus can pass from person to person without symptoms making it extremely difficult to track.”
This year's tourism industry is really going through a very hard time. Hotels, resorts, airlines, transportation and so on are facing tremendous pressure to stay afloat.
